'The King Of Cool'

Among
my purposes for this 2014 was to start my blog. And even though the idea was
something to chew on, it was not until today that I decided to do so.
The name
of this blog was originally supposed to be called 'The King Of Cool', but
there is only one “King Of Cool” and
that is Steve McQueen, whom I dedicate my first entry for being an owner of a
unique and timeless style.
Terrence
Steve McQueen was born on March 24, 1930 in Beech Grove, a suburb of
Minneapolis, more specifically in Indiana, USA.
He
was 25 years old, when he debuted on Broadway. The following year he entered
the world of cinema. At 36, he was consecrated as an actor achieving a
nomination for an Academy Award® for his
role in: The Sand Pebbles.
Alongside
his film career, he devoted his spare time to his hobbies: like martial arts
(Bruce Lee, in addition to being his friend, was his teacher), but particularly
the adrenaline supplied by motorcycles and racing cars.
This
last hobby became so important in his life, to the point in which he posed the
dilema:
“I'm not sure whether I'm an actor who races or a racer who acts.”
But
hey, this is not a film blog, much less about racing, it´s about fashion and
style, so let´s focus on that:
Inside
or outside the film set or the racetracks, McQueen always looked spectacular!
Same thing with slim-fit tailored suits from Brioni and or Pierre Cardin, that with
in beige chinos and a plain white T-shirt.
Among
his most iconic clothes were V-neck sweateres, turtlenecks, like the one he
used in the movie Bullitt (1968) shawl-collared cardigans, etc.,
Fan of exhilarating emotions:
Leather
jackets , gloves, perfect-fitting white T-shirt, jeans, etc., Could not miss in
your wardrobe. With these clothes, the actor could get really dirty and do the
most daring feats (Recall that during the making of the film Le Mans, he drove
a Porsche 908, despite of having a broken leg. This film was released in 1971, the
exact same year in which Porsche won Le Mans for the second time)
Footwear:
From
Converse Jack Purcell, Desert boots , M -43 boots (The same as used by the
troops during World War II and that he wears in the film The Great Escape)
Accessories:
Sunglasses: Persol 714 , which he wears in the film The Thomas Crown Affair from 1968.
They were sold in 2006 at auction in Los Angeles for the modest sum of $ 70.200
usd.
Watches:
Such
as the McQueen Rolex (previously Explorer) and the Tag Heuer Monaco, also
called "McQueen Monaco" that he sports in the film Le Mans. Among
others, the Patek Philippe pocket watch, that he wears in the film The Thomas
Crown Affair.
Steve
McQueen was left-handed, therefore he wore his watches on his right wrist (and
that´s why I wear them, the same way)
In
addition to his watches and fabulous sunglasses, his best accessory was always
a beautiful woman grasping from his arm. It is worth mentioning that the actor
was married three times!

McQueen
died on November 7, 1980 in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. A cause of lung cancer. He was 50 years old.
